The Olympic medallist weightlifter follows a largely boiled, nutrition-first diet built to fuel heavy training and speed up recovery.

Her training & workout

Chanu's preparation centres on the technical and strength demands of Olympic weightlifting, and ahead of Paris she spoke about going back to basics to rebuild form. Her sessions are intense enough that she burns well over double her daily calorie intake, keeping her conditioning tightly aligned to her competition category. (As reported by ESPN.)

Her diet

Her meals are mostly boiled and deliberately plain, with breakfasts of eggs, mushrooms, vegetables, potatoes or dalia, lunches built around grilled or boiled fish such as salmon or pomfret with dal, and dinners of red meat and vegetables. She has said she eats for recovery rather than taste, keeping her intake around 1,500 to 1,600 calories a day.

Recovery & mind

Recovery is something she treats as integral rather than optional, with her bland, protein-forward eating designed to help her bounce back faster between heavy sessions. Managing her intake carefully also keeps her steady and strong heading into competition.
